Are You Ready for 2024

Hello Friends!

I read ‘The Daily Stoic’ and love his content! It’s all about being prepared in your mind so that you can respond to situations the way that you want to, helping you be your best self!Check this out:

“Considering what happened to him during his reign, it was a pretty good strategy. Marcus Aurelius experienced plagues and war and floods and tragedies. He buried his own children. He was betrayed in a coup attempt. Rome’s treasury was depleted.

And that was just the extreme events. There was also the day to day life, the week to week challenges that life brings to every person. Trouble sleeping. Bad weather. Feeling sick. Hurting your knee. Travel delays. A disagreement with your spouse. Habits you can’t quit.

How did he deal with all this? He says in Meditations that he needed to face life like a wrestler, “waiting, poised and dug in, for sudden assaults.” Some say Marcus was cynical or a little dark in his writings. No, what he was was preparing himself, steeling himself for the very real challenges he faced and knew he would face.

What about you? Are you ready for the inevitable, unending challenges that lay ahead? Just think about what 2024 could bring—we’re facing global conflicts, a make-or-break presidential election, untamed inflation, climate change…plus all the regular stuff! How dug in are you? How tough is your inner citadel? How is your battle stance? How sharp are your weapons? How prepared is your mind?

Are you a wrestler?”

  1. Some fine questions. Speaking for myself by reading about my British family I married into I find stoic behaviour.. They had World War I and then II . My family had my granny marry the enemy (the British), and she was totally rejected by her Boer family during the war in SA. All these people met Christ, some didn’t bother much about Him others, accepted Divine help. This is what I choose to strengthen me for this very uncertain future. Thank you for making me think.

  2. Definitely a wrestler. I’d heard of Marcus Aurelius, of course, but never studied his writings in great detail. Stoicism is something I’m rebuilding, since occasionally, like all wrestlers, I get taken to the ground, no matter how dug in I am. Just have to get back up, even if you’re in a headlock!

A pinch of cynicism is fine, that scepticism that everything might be bad, leaves you exploring options for if it does.
